The Top 7 Fall Fashion Trends for 2018

There are always tons of new trends as well as the regurgitated ones that show up every year (spring = stripes and florals; fall = browns and layering; holiday = sparkles and jewel tones). And, as I always say, it’s not about buying every new trend, as they likely don’t all look good on you AND who has the money to reinvent their wardrobe each year? It’s about being aware of the what’s more current, developing your own style and buying a few key pieces.

Don't forget to look at my other projects (if you have the time of course):

* Redesigned DigitalStore – recommended! Huge collection of discounts.
* Books for women (nice)
* To be fit and beauty – no comments 🙂
* Get your Ex back… but I hope it won’t be needed for you
* Dating and romance – proved on myself 😉
* Body detox reviews, well, just in case. Cool reviews and how not to get caught in trap with bad products!
* Build a stable passive income – worked for me also, but you should be patient. Time is on your side, though.

Magenta

As the fashion world continues its love of pink, this is the new “it” pink for the season. Magenta is a rich, bright pink that looks fabulous with browns and camel colors, making it a perfect color to make your fall outfit pop. With statement earrings still very much in, you can add some magenta there, or buy a silk blouse or even an oversized coat. If you love magenta, it’s your year to stock up. If you love red, there’s tons of that as well.

Animal print

While the most adventurous among us can get away with wearing animal print from head-to-toe this season, it’s fair warning to say that most people can not. But, if you’ve had a hankering to wear your leopard blouse with leopard shoes with a leopard jacket … well, this is your season to throw caution into the wind and do it. Or, if you see your friend do this and wonder if she’s lost her mind, just know that it’s actually a thing. That said, maybe just going for a dress that is all animal print might keep you in the “safe zone.”

’80s

Ah, the lovely ’80s. Nods to the decade this season include metallic, shiny, foil fabrics; acid-washed denim; big coats; color blocking; neon and that certain glammed-up ’80s vibe. Think a silver jacket or shiny pants are too much? Not this year. Wear black leather pants with a boldly patterned shirt. Wear prints … glorious, big, bold, not-matching prints! All of these are back. If you want to embrace the look a little more subtly, perhaps try a bright clutch, a color-blocked shoe or a silver foil blouse. As far as acid-washed goes, I lived through the ’80s and can’t imagine ever wearing acid-washed anything again. If you didn’t live through the ’80s, now is your time to experiment.

Ruching

“You can’t tell fold from fat” — this is the way ruching was once described to me and likely a reason so many women are embracing this trend. Add a little ruching to the side of a fitted shirt, and goodbye muffin top. Add some ruching to a skirt and little extra bulges are minimized. Don’t have anything to camouflage? Ruching stills adds interest and style. Ruching, done right, is a sooth-saying flatterer. Hands to the sky that there is so much of it this season.

Faux Fur

Faux fur has never been bigger or bolder. With several fashion houses pledging to abandon real fur, faux is more prevalent than ever before. Available in any color under the sun, the reds, pinks, magentas and burgundy ones are making us the happiest for Fall/Winter 2018.

Modesty

Blouses are decidedly buttoned up. There are lots of ties at the neck. The midi-skirt is a bit longer. That’s not to say that all of these things aren’t pretty, as there does seem to be an embracement of romance in many of them, but modesty is in. Look at every photo included in this article for confirmation of that.

A Nod to ‘The Crown’

Speaking of modesty, do you watch Netflix’s “The Crown”? It’s over-the-top expensive to produce as the attention to detail is extreme. The interior design, the architecture, the fashion … oh, the lovely fashion! Similarly, as to when “Mad Men”‘s fashion spilled over into real life, fashion from “The Crown” is now jumping from screen to the street, with a put-together woman leading the way. And, she’s leading the way with tweed. The biggest trend in tweed is the oversized menswear-inspired topcoat worn by us women, which is also a nod to the late ’80s. Yep, once again, tweed is hip. And, speaking of royalty, tartans and plaids continue to reign.

Speaking of ‘The Crown’, Megan Markle will have an immediate effect on the fashion world, just as Kate Middleton did — and still does. They both exude a modern, classic style that is feminine, modest and approachable to many generations of women. If you ask yourself, “Would Megan or Kate wear this?” and your answer is yes, it’s a safe bet that you are looking fabulous.

Ethical Fashion (bonus #8 trend)

More and more consumers want to know where their clothing is coming from. Who made their bag, their shoes, their dress. Up until now, the audits available for fashion brands were not transparent to the level we expect. Nashville-based brand ABLE is disrupting the fashion universe with a brand new initiative — the launch of a new audit called the ACCOUNTABLE Report — in which large and small brands can all participate. It centers around ensuring the workplace is safe, a living wage is paid, and women are being paid an equitable salary in comparison to men. It starts by publishing the salaries of the lowest paid workers in the factory and showing how that compares to a living wage in the area. It’s truly groundbreaking and heartwarming. Please take two extra minutes to read about this initiative that has a global impact:
