The A Star is Born actress opened up to The Business of Fashion about the new line, which will become available for pre-order on July 15 exclusively through Amazon:
“Color is completely transformative — it’s powerful, it’s beautiful, and it’s how I found my voice with makeup. No message of self-acceptance, no deal.”
Fellow celebs-turned-beauty moguls Rihanna and Kylie Jenner sell their products at specialty stores Sephora and Ulta, respectively; however, GaGa went another way, partnering exclusively with Amazon.
The company has run into controversy of late due to their alleged poor treatment of workers.
However, GaGa says she was impressed with how they allowed her to hold on to her new business’s integrity.
Explained her choice to go with the online retail giant, she said:
“There are companies that see me and what I stand for and the way that I view the world, and if it’s not perfectly in line with what they do … they’ll be like, ‘Can you just change half of the equation?’ The answer is no. No deal. No message of self-acceptance, no deal. This [deal with Amazon] was so wonderful because this was like, ‘Let’s make a deal, let’s make a deal to change the world with their beauty.’”
The 33-year-old believes her new business will continue to allow her the same self-expression music does:
“I have a platform in the world. God gave me this voice for a reason, I don’t know why, I ask myself that question all the time, but I’m sure as hell not going to put out a beauty brand that is going to drive insecurity and fear into people. This is about liberation.”
The brand will be sold in nine countries via Amazon.com and HausLabs.com starting in September.
Fans can expect bright, bold-colored lip gloss and liners, eyeshadow palettes and more with a heavy dose of glitter and sparkles!
